Christian - Equality is Gender Blind

What is the "Good News?"

Tell me, what's the "Good News" of the Gospel? Try converting some rational and successful woman to Christianity by telling her that now she no longer has certain rights of choice. Is that Good News? Tell her that all hes are heads and shes aren't -- whatever that means. "Religion" puts people in bondage (slavery), while the truth sets us free! The Good News of God MUST be proclaimed to the world! Good news speaks specifically to the need of emancipation. If only we had ears to hear that cry still going forth today, "Let my people go!" Can you hear it resounding across the land?

No longer will indenturing doctrine be taken for granted. Platitudes won't be neutrally patronized. Soon you the reader will be convinced that the male isn't "The priest" of the home - Jesus is. History will explain where that expression came from.

You'll know that long misused word, headship, isn't synonymous with "logic," or "being the boss, or the decider." The New Testament offers a changed priesthood - so that all believers can have complete access to the presence of God. Hateful discrimination was never God's plan. He doesn't prefer half of creation because of some sort of imagined "divine order." Rather, God desires communion with all of us. He speaks into our souls with His Word, which is our final authority -- not what men have always insisted that It says.

Even though today's gender biases are more polished and subtle, ultimately they're just as damaging as those in the Medieval Church. Except now, discrimination is more indirect; it's the networks you can't get in to, the lunches you're not invited to, and the contacts you never hear about-just because you're a woman. The golf games you don't play....

Jezebel!

Women who have felt ship wrecked on the jagged rocks of religion, now awaken to realize that they've been forced into distinctive responses. Regardless of qualifications, the church constrains her. That's why it's time to tip over the tables. This discrimination based on accidentally being born female must be challenged. No longer willing to be dismissed as irrational, or to be pacified by token gestures lasting only for a short moment, women must appeal. But unfortunately, the vocal woman is usually labeled and shunned.

As she realizes her potential and emerges with new confidence, the church world yells, "Jezebel Spirit!" Still, she longs for understanding, only to find the doors piously closed. Even those illusive doors that "seem to be open" still have hesitance and superstition rusting in the hinges.

How do we challenge hatred, without being hateful?

The good news to the blind person isn't that he can walk, but that his situation changed and now he sees! Good news to the poor is that they won't be poor anymore, that the bound can be free, that the woman can be...What? Submerged? No, the Gospel must meet the needs of the oppressed (Lu. 4:18). As T.L. Osborn reminds us, people are the focal point of God's prime move. God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways.

God came here to earth to give hope to the hopeless. He's the God of ERA: Equal Redemption for All. A redemption that takes us to the beginning of creation, not to the curse. Redemption has no class, gender, or racial restrictions. Christ came to reestablish God's presence in us. He came to give His life to our spirit, soul, and body.

Fortunately, the man had no part in building or designing the woman; she wasn't even his idea. Adam slept without input, while the Creator uniquely designed her as an independent composition to glorify His Name. God said that her beginning was "good." At the time of her inception, this delightful creation never had to plead for status or recognition. Even though times changed, to this day, God's original intention has yet to be fully realized. The Lord leaves the actualization of His plan up to you and me, giving us all authority and power to accomplish His tasks. He has inscribed you into His palm saying, "THOU art Mine."

Today the trumpet sounds with a certain sound, lift up your heads for your redemption draweth nigh.

I'm thankful for your courage to confront the issue of equality, it is sooooo misunderstood. It's so hard to understand why so many churches require a male appendage to pray, preach, teach, or even usher.

Whew, what a relief! Just prior to finding you, I'd read some things on here by a pentecostal pastor (Jim) who I was shocked and disappointed by. I wanted to leave some comments for him - even email him directly - but for whatever reason, there wasn't a box to "submit a comment," or the opportunity to send him a private message. Thankfully he at least believes in the 5 fold, the gifts of tongues and healing but I was grieved to learn he has a problem with worship dance and women being able to teach and preach...I really wanted to tell him to check out "Why not Women" by Loren Cunningham (from YWAM). I also wanted to suggest that the writer of Hebrews may very well have been Priscilla! Anyway, glad to find you! Hopefully in some of your other hubs (won't be able to read them all tonight!) I will get to hear some testimonies about your being in India and other places.

Christinekv--you need to get hold of some of her books. They are eye opening.

It is God's time to take the bliders off and set women free go be what He has called them to be. The word is out and there is no stopping it. I'm delighted with this hub and the many other avenues to truth that Dr. Spake has taken the time and effort to make available.

Since I have been set free, I can easily see even subtle

nuances of gender bias these days. They play up to our emotions and sometimes even have what seems to be great insight but, in the end all they end of doing is wrecking the dreams God has placed in us. Thank you Pastor Kluane for always standing up for the truth and for proclaiming it loud and clear. I remember when I was a new believer and told a pastor that I believed God was calling me to teach the Word of God and he told me I would have to wait on my husband???? What??? I can't tell you how much that devastated me to hear someone tell me that, when not hours before I heard the Holy Spirit tell me he had called me. Until I came to Guam under you Pastor Kluane, I spent years being sad thinking why does God love men more why did he even make me then.

Some churches don't want us in the pulpit but it sure becomes a different story when they need Sunday school teachers for the children, what is the difference aren't we still preaching the word only to a smaller version of God's children? Brilliantly written PK!
